Trustees

BCS is managed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, who meet regularly to plan strategy and oversee the work of the organization; they carry the ultimate responsibility for eveything we do.

BCS is seeking people to join its board of trustees. This year the organization will have seen almost 1,000 people. BCS is a member organization of British Assosiation of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and works to the principles set out in its Ethical Framework. The board meets for about an hour on the first Thursday of the month at 5.15pm in our central city centre office. If you can spare an hour or so a month this is perfect role for you. The charity operates an equal opportunities policy for all vacant positions. Those that are successful will undergo an enhanced DBS (previous CRB) check and only appointed on receipt of references.

Placements and Volunteer Qualified Counsellors

BCS manages placements for counsellors completing their Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling certificates. We work with a number of learning institution, including Leeds Met, Leeds University, St.John York and Swarthmore College. We take pride in the level of support we give to our volunteers, via management supervision, group supervision and peer support from our experienced staff counsellors.

In order to maintain that support, we have a limited number of places available each year and we would advise any student looking for placement to check on availability by calling us first.

We are always happy to consider volunteers, in the form of qualified counsellors; many of our students countinue to volunteer with us after they have comleted their counselling diplomas.

Volunteer Support and Admin Workers

BCS has a small team of volunteer support workers who undertake initial appointments with clients, prior to them moving on to counselling. This is a very important role, introducing people to our service, helping them to understand the process and gathering information on their situation and needs to enable us to give them the right help.

With over a thousand clients coming through our doors each year, administration is another department that needs a lot of attention and if you have experience in this area, we'd love to hear from you. We cannot guarantee a place is available, so call us first to check.
